Description: A fun and innovative field docent program to enhance public awareness and understanding of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS)- its history, wildlife, policies and programs. BAY NET volunteers carry tripod-mounted binoculars and wildlife field guides. They serve as on-site interpreters, sharing their knowledge and their enthusiasm for our Sanctuary, our community, and its wildlife by interacting with the public at selected points along the shoreline. BAY NET volunteers are people like you - business owners, parents, divers, boaters, teachers, surfers, and students. They share a love for the outdoors, a passion for the ocean and its wildlife, and a genuine desire to inspire environmental stewardship. Since 1995, over 300 central coast residents have become BAY NET volunteers! To date, they have enriched the experience of over 200,000 shoreline visitors. During the last three years, BAY NET has extended its operations south, to San Luis Obispo County and north to Santa Cruz! Call today to reserve seats for the next training. Bring a friend... bring your partner! BAY NET is a program of the Center for Marine Conservation, a nation-wide organization dedicated to education, and the protection and preservation of marine resources, worldwide.
