Description: The CVPOA is a 50 year old, non-profit organization of property owners and residents of the Carmel Valley, fundamentally oriented toward far-sighted planning of land use and the protection of property owners’ interest in harmony with the natural environment. Through coordination of efforts, CVPOA serves as a strong voice with regulatory agencies to represent the Valley. The CVPOA by-laws identify its objectives as follow: • To preserve, protect and defend the natural beauty and the resources of Carmel Valley and the County of Monterey, and in so doing give due consideration to the property rights of citizens. • To monitor and influence the improvement, adoption and implementation of the Carmel Valley Master Plan to assure orderly, carefully planned and carefully controlled growth and development (both residential and commercial) so as to preserve scenic values, air quality, water quality, noise control, riparian vegetation, traffic safety, and the general quality of life. • To monitor and influence, for the benefit of Carmel Valley residents, the planning and provision of required services such as water supply, sewage disposal, refuse disposal, utilities, police protection, fire protection, roads, parks and trails. • To disseminate information to all residents of Carmel Valley on all issues affecting their lives and property in this area. • To provide a forum at Board, Committee and general membership meetings for open discussion of Valley affairs and problems. • To coordinate CVPOA policies and activities with those of other appropriate Carmel Valley organizations for the attainment of mutually agreed goals. A board of fifteen elected directors, including elected officers, holds monthly meetings; representation of directors is distributed geo-graphically from Cachagua to Highway 1. In addition, periodic general membership meetings present speakers or panel discussions focusing attention on selected current issues. Standing and special committees of concerned members focus on topics such as land use, water management, roads and trails, and revision of the CV Master Plan. The activities and operating expenses of CVPOA are supported by the annual membership dues and special contributions. The CVPOA was organized in 1949 by a few far-sighted citizens; membership has grown as residents have realized the important role it plays in Carmel Valley. CVPOA has contributed to all efforts to retain the rural atmosphere of the Valley and serves as a watchdog over the many permitting agencies whose actions impact it. Respected as a voice for Carmel Valley, many of CVPOA’s recommendations have been adopted by the county government. The CVPOA Board of Directors meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Mid-Valley Fire Station, Community Room, 7:30 PM. Board meetings are open to the general membership and to the public. Other meetings, including an annual picnic, are announced in local newspapers and newsletters.
